Distracted, not Disinterested
5 Dec 2004
In other news, I’ve been hired as a multimedia developer (what does that title even mean anymore?) for Griffith University; and after 2 weeks I can honestly say I’d be happy to stay here for years. Most of my work is XHTML/CSS, with lots of variation in the form of pixel pushing, animations and ‘interactives’ in Flash and Director. Besides all the great people I’m working with, the best part is that I don’t have to be an agent of change — the decision makers are already aware of the advantages of semantic, accessible code combined with CSS.
It hasn’t been all good news though, a large project I was working on turned sour after the client broke the contract on a couple of occasions. We’ve put it on hiatus until early next year to give the client more time to finalise decisions on their end; hopefully the beautiful site I’ve already designed will see the light of day, otherwise I may just release the design as a free template. We’ll have to wait and see…
Geoffrey Sneddon:
Are you using WP 1.3a5 for developing LJ 2?
Anyhow, can’t wait
Kris Khaira:
It’s been a while since I browsed your site, though I read your RSS feed whenever it’s updated.
I can’t wait to see the new design. I’m planning a makeover of my site too. Something that will look a bit more cleaner and will still be using WordPress but maybe with Mambo for the other sections.
Brady J. Frey:
Yeah, clients can be a hassle in their own right:) — in the end, it’s your design if it wasn’t paid for, which gives you the right to post it as a template however you’d like… and, if anything, don’t post it as a template, but put it in that portfolio section that needs more pictures:) Us Creative Directors love to see your development — the initial sketches all the way up to the design you created.
Seth Thomas Rasmussen:
Congrats on what sounds like a top notch work environment, all things considered.
Could you be bothered to explain a little bit about your XSL plans?
I am currently working on a new design of Opposite of Sequitur which should hopefully blow some fucking minds.
P.S. I was starting to miss you…
Andrew:
Geoffrey: That’s right, I have so much faith in WP that I’m going to run an ‘alpha’ product
Seth: All in good time, my friend. All in good time…
I’m looking forward to your new site, I dig a lot of the concepts you came up with when you first started it and hopefully your new site can blow my jaded mind too
Seth Thomas Rasmussen:
One of these days I’m gonna get my high school multimedia class portfolio online…
That will blow your mind via how much it just plain blows.
Geoffrey Sneddon:
Heh, Andrew, I only have phpBB 2.1 alpha and WP 1.3 alpha running on my web server
Dave Hope:
Looking forward to seeing your new diesign, what’re you going to do with this one though ? – It’s too nice to just throw away!
Glad you’ve found a nice cushy job, especially with something you’re so good with.
Have a great new Christmas & New year!
Peter King:
Hey, the amount of times i have been to this website, checking source code etc, i have never once wrote a comment, so i though … why not!
Let me just say, i can’t wait till version 2! I’m sure that’s going to Blow My Mind!
What is XLS??? and what does it do etc. I hope all you professionals out there, can help this amature out!!
by the way … Andrew are you going to the QANTM Exhibition??
If so i might see you there, it’s on saturday for the general public from 10 till 2
Seth Thomas Rasmussen:
Peter,
W3 Schools has many great resource on a wide variety of topics, including XSL and related technologies.
heretic:
Glad you like Griffith’s attitude to standards, no matter how far we are towards achieving our goals
The official URL is http://www.griffith.edu.au though….!
Andrew:
Heh, whoops
James Edwards:
At the risk of sounding like a pedant … I think you mean “uninterested” – a judge would be disinterested, having no particular bias toward either point of view.
Andrew:
Aye, c’mon James — gimme a break! Yous all be pickin’ on me words.
