Dumb Luck or Bad Maths?

| August 16, 2004 | Category: General

When I launched this site, I purposefully neglected to submit it to any of the search engines. Consider it a little experiment to see how well a Word Press blog gets indexed without any help. Now, two weeks later, I’m surprised by the results…

I always expected this site to be the first result for a search on my name, but the results for the search term left justified took me by surprise. Google et all ignore this site completely under that term, and so they should; left justified is a typography term, and a damn common one at that. There is one amongst the pack who think differently — Yahoo search. Search.yahoo.com lists this site as the number 1 match for left justified, while the other search engines don’t even put me in the first five pages.

Could it be that the other guys haven’t stumbled across this site? That’s not it, as a more relevant search term finds this site just fine. To my reckoning, it’s either dumb luck on my part, or bad maths on yahoo’s (not that I’m complaining).
