Distracted, not Disinterested
December 5, 2004 | 14 Comments
Wow, I’ve certainly neglected this site of late. On the web design front, I’ve finally made some headway into version 2 of Left Justified - hooray! Even though the pixel pushing is nearly complete, the new design won’t be unveiled until the New Year due to all the backend changes I have planned. Lots of little intricacies to make my life easier, such as server side XSL for the templates and finally adding a front end to the database which runs the folio section so I don’t have to use phpMyAdmin to make additions — something which has been putting me off from updating the folio for months. Bad developer! Bad!
Microsoft Listens; But to Whom?

From an interview with Steve Vamos, Microsoft Australia’s managing director:
I don’t believe it is a true statement that IE doesn’t have the features that our customers want. We take user feedback very seriously. If you have that feedback, then you should feed it back to us because we will feed it to the product team.
Hmmm, I thought we already had. The interview contains some hilarious quotes, especially this one:
There are plenty of products out there with features we don’t have. We have plenty of features that our customers don’t use.
Sounds like a winning combo to me.
Then there’s this fine piece of marketing from the IE team. Wow, it’s just like watching Fox news during the US election — fair and unbiased.

Westciv have just announced the results of their CSS template competition. While my entry didn’t take out any of the three categories it was entered in (’no-images’, ‘print’ and ‘handheld’) it did score me a free copy of their Style Master software! I knew I should have bought John a drink after the WSG meeting
. To be honest, I’ve never tried it; but if it increases my efficiency while creating new designs I’ll become a vocal supporter of their product. I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly thank John and Maxine and wish them all the best with the upcoming release of Style Master 4 — the fact that they are an Australian company pushing the uptake of standards is all the more reason for me to wish them success!
One of Those Days…

Late Thursday night, my housemates and I returned home to discover a horrid stench. Upon inspection of the backyard we were confronted by what could only be described as a flood of waste water and human excrement, caused by the roots of a large eucalypt tree in the adjacent (council-owned) property.
Fan-bloody-tastic. My yard was covered in the neighbourhood’s sewerage.
